Last week I quoted George Elliot,”What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?”
I had mentioned that Melinda White from Biz Pro Solutions is offering
to organise free workshops for unemployed and ones affected or about
to be affected by labour force layoffs/cut backs to help them gain
employment. Melinda, who has considerable experience in human
resources, is seeking assistance from other organisations and
individuals to make the workshops community orientated, by having a
group of people coming together offering their time and expertise to
benefit others; locals helping locals, a community constructively
helping itself. I can report that Melinda now has a venue and a date to
hold the free workshops. Rockhampton Enterprise Centre on Quay Street
has made their meeting rooms available for Thursday October 25.
Southern Cross Austereo has offered to promote the workshops on SEA and
HOT FM. Workforce Express is helping with the organisation and will
have available information on labour hire registration and
opportunities. This will compliment Melinda’s session on preparing a
resume, writing a job application, the hidden job market and interview
tips. Other organisations are welcome and encouraged to also contribute
their time and expertise to the free workshops. At this stage Melinda
is hoping to hold a morning and afternoon workshop. Depending on
registrations each workshop could have a particular focus on white or
blue collar positions to be more relevant to the participants.
Registrations to attend the workshops can now be made by unemployed and
one’s affected by layoffs/cut backs by visiting the website www.bizprosolutions.com.au.
Organisations or individuals who are interested in assisting the
workshops by giving freely of their time and expertise can contact
Melinda via e-mail; enquiries@bizprosolutions.com.au.
Melinda is particularly keen to include sessions on financial
planning/budgeting and emotional well-being. If you are qualified to
provide such advice, please consider offering your help. Unemployment
is not just an individual’s concern, it is a community concern. We are
all affected by it. It is good to see the Rockhampton business
community is trying to make life less difficult for the growing number
of individuals that are or will be without work by supporting these
community workshops.
