Agents 00.7 you are now licensed to govern. Imagine the Queensland Governor (M) saying this to the Katter boys. Then saying, “your mission if you choose to accept it (I know, now borrowing from another spy series, but its title seems more appropriate to the task) make the Queensland economy prosper without increasing debt, taxes, charges or cutting services while generating tens of thousands new jobs. How does the 3 year (or there about, it’s a not fixed date) mission end; will Katter, Rob Katter and Shane Knuth (delete the ‘K’ and the remaining letters spell Hunt – Ethan Hunt) save Queensland? Fiction or reality! Ferny Grove may decide and re-decide. This state election has highlighted the power of an individual’s vote. Less than hundreds in several seats will determine which party governs. Less than 1% of voters may have anointed the possible kingmakers, with the combined Katter and Knuth vote tally (18001) representing about 00.7% of the total state vote. The state’s informal vote (55978) was larger than the total Katter party vote (48930), who obtained 2 seats with just 1.88% of the formal votes and possibly the balance of power. Your vote does count and shouldn’t be wasted. Politics may not be that interesting, but it affects us all and we can affect it. Government is inefficient, makes mistakes, but where would we be without it. Joseph E. Stiglitz, ‘Price of Inequality’, writes “the same is true for the market economy: the power of markets is enormous, but they have no inherent moral character. We have to decide how to manage them… For all these reasons, it is plain that markets must be tamed and tempered to make sure they work to the benefit of most citizens. And that has to be done repeatedly, to ensure that they continue to do so”. Here’s hoping that all who do end up being elected work to the benefit of most Queenslander’s. A strong opposition can enable this or hinder it. Our pro-active interest may determine their preference. In the meantime Annastacia Palaszczuk is perhaps yearning the Katter boys did look more like Daniel Craig and Tom Cruise. Make all the meetings she is going to have with them somewhat appealing.
