Would it be better to make a mistake as opposed to knowing how to avoid one?
We are told to learn from your mistakes, so you don’t repeat it. “Make a mistake once and it becomes a lesson. Make the same mistake twice and it becomes a choice”.
If you knew how to avoid making the mistake is that a more valuable lesson?
From a guy who has made a number of mistakes it is a lesson I would prefer to learn.
Especially in business when a mistake or bad choice can cost you your home.
Tuesday next week Startup Capricorn is holding another community meetup. This meetup will feature internationally recognised business and life super coach Elize Hattin. Her presentation is ‘6 Costly Mistakes Businesses Make and How to Avoid Them’.
One thing you are often told when considering starting a business is the high failure rate, supposedly 50% in the first year, 95% within 5 years. With those sorts of odds stacked against you who in their right mind would go into business?
You can argue as to the accuracy of these figures but more businesses that start today will not exist 5 to 10 years later.
Why do than, what appear to be sane rational people take the risk, aware of the stacked odds, and start a business?
There are no doubt many reasons, thank goodness they do though. After all where would our economy be without this enduring entrepreneurial spirit?
However while the spirit maybe willing the knowledge needed to operate a business could be weak, leading to learning from mistakes.
Thus to have an internationally recognised business coach that actually walks the talk share her learning’s is a valuable lesson for both impending and existing business owners. Especially considering there is no charge and Elize is not there to sell you something.
This is another way Startup Capricorn is helping strengthen an eco-system in the region that enhances the propagation of new businesses, specifically start-up’s.
Start-up’s, now finally recognised as essential in creating new jobs, quite quickly if the successful new business model can be easily duplicated.
Helping strengthen the eco-system to encourage more start-up’s commence and develop is one way we can play a greater role in our regions destiny.
Just waiting for government promises and intervention isn’t enough if we want better. Better opportunities for our youth, better growth prospects, better home values, better standard of living.
If you are thinking of starting a business or if in business and like to avoid some mistakes rather than taking a hit making them attend the meetup on Tuesday June 28 at the Workshop, 45 East Street, starting at 5.30pm. Like the Startup Capricorn Facebook page for updates and other relevant information.
It would be easy to say it would be a mistake not to attend, however now armed with information about the event it is now a choice.
The journey to better for our region is going to take time and commitment plus a demonstration to those with ideas to make different things or things differently that here is a place you can do that, you don’t need to leave.
